“My story matters because I matter. I am absolutely enough.”
Brene Brown
My name is Becky Messitt and I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor. This means that within my practice, I seamlessly draw upon various therapeutic approaches and techniques, allowing me to tailor counselling to your unique needs. I believe that within you lie the solutions to navigate life’s challenges. During our counselling sessions, conducted in a secure and nurturing environment, you’ll explore your feelings and confront your fears. In my perspective, counselling acts as the bridge connecting your current state with the goals you aim to achieve.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and fully uphold their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling. With experience in working with both adults and young people, I address a range of issues. Besides my private practice, I also volunteer at a community counselling agency.
Counselling is a profound journey of self-exploration and growth. Drawing from a diverse range of approaches including Rogers, Freud, Attachment theory, Psychosocial theory, Person-Centred therapy, Existentialism and Jungian psychology, we’ll explore what resonates with you within an integrative framework.
Together, we will understand and untangle your feelings and behaviours, gaining deeper insights into understanding yourself and the decisions that shape your life. This process will empower you to revaluate your lifestyle and decisions, clearing the path for an authentic and genuine life journey. Above all, the most vital asset in this endeavour is the relationship we cultivate.
Our initial session will serve as an assessment where we can explore what you feel you need help with and determine how we might work together.
I offer short term work as well as longer, open ended therapy to suit your needs. Regardless of the duration you choose, I generally recommend committing to an initial minimum of six sessions. This timeframe allows us to develop our therapeutic relationship and delve deeper into your presenting issues more comprehensively.
"Kintsugi is the Japense art of mending broken objects using gold or silver epoxy. The Japanese believe that when something has suffered damage and has a history, it becomes more beautiful."

depression
anxiety
fears
anger
panic attacks
stress
relationship challenges
identity
LGBTQ+
bullying

menopause-related issues
infertility
grief and loss: past, present or future bereavement
major life changing situations
I also have experience in counselling young people age 7-25 years.
In addition to working with individuals, I also offer support to families. Family counselling can be a valuable space for improving communication, resolving conflict, and strengthening relationships within the family unit.
In my work with families, I take a flexible and tailored approach to address the unique needs of each family. Each session, I may choose to work with individual family members or focus on specific family relationships to meet the overall family’s needs. This allows me to explore the personal dynamics and challenges that may be affecting the family as a whole.
On other occasions, I may work with the entire family together to gain a deeper understanding of how each person’s reactions, feelings, and perspectives impact the family. This approach fosters healthier communication and helps build stronger connections within the family.
Family counselling often focuses on improving communication styles and resolving difficulties that arise from misunderstandings and miscommunications.
Whether I am working with individuals or the entire family, my goal is to support each family member’s growth while strengthening the overall family unit. Together, we will identify patterns, improve understanding, and develop constructive ways to move forward.

Fees
Each counselling session lasts for 50 minutes, and the cost is £55 per session. All fees are required to be paid in advance of each session through bank transfer
Cancellation policy
I recognise that life can sometimes disrupt our plans. If you need to reschedule, please let me know atleast 24 hours before your session, and we can arrange a new appointment. Appointments cancelled within 24 hours will be subject to payment.
I offer a 15-minute initial telephone consultation at no cost. This conversation allows us to discuss your concerns and assess whether I am the right therapist for you. It is really important that you feel comfortable, as honesty is key to achieving the most beneficial outcomes in your therapeutic process.
Considerations for online sessions
Working remotely from the comfort of your home can come with its complexities, so I propose you carefully consider this option, particularly when it comes to ensuring that you have a secure and private environment that will be conducive to upholding confidentiality.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07903 589699 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
